In the window

The woman has a window seat; she is bound by the window; pale where the exhibition of herself has cinched her in. The red throb of lip, like a newly split blister, flames between her nude nails. She smokes deeply and treacles through the curve of her spine. He notices. Slicing through the liquid geometry of the window, he dissects her into manageable chunks. He closes his eyes to hear her bones sing and through their own dark tunnels he sees her veins begin to hang loose and seep, rhythmically.
It is late afternoon and the traffic is picking up. It has been raining fitfully all day. She watches the glossy shapes flurry past and twists her toes, wrapping her feet around the chairs leg; her soles thrill against the cool air. ‘I’m bad’ she braces against the pause in her throat and seals it in, quick ‘through and through’ The spliff burns itself out. ‘I’m going to let you do it all, just don’t let me get a good look at you, for your sake, don’t let me see’
An Ambulance whines past; a plume of gutter-water in its wake. He stands, watching his half-shadow loom against her.
She grabs her empty purse and leaves.

I think of a traffic jam due to an accident, and she sees his ghost. It doesn't faze her though.
Or maybe she hit the guy? Hahahaha.

I think different people might interpret the ending differently. But i prefer to think of her coming to her senses and leaving him there (with her purse still empty).

What does the purse symbolize, then? What kind of a gain was she looking for? What valuables did she lose?

The empty purse shows firstly that she'd spent all her money sitting in that shop waiting to catch some fellas eye but what she was looking for was something shallow and dangerous (altho i wanted it to be ambiguous whether he or she was the predator) so when she grabs her empty purse she is leaving with something more (her dignity perhaps or something similar)...the purse is a receptical for shallow values i suppose. But it depends whther you imagine her leaving because she loses her bottle, leaving with the intention of him following her or leaving after coming to her senses.

Then this works better a prose, not a short story.

I didnt really know what it was. I do like short scenes and snippets. I like the Pulp fiction idea where you have small seperate stories that cross at different points into each other.

I know exactly what you mean. Just when you think you got it...

I saw bits and pieces of Pulp Fiction. Have yet to see the entire thing.
